Storm force waves creating the jagged Shetland coastline.

The stark zigzag nature of a Wave makes it a focal point of the border. When shawls with Waves in the border were worn against the voluminous skirts of the mid-nineteenth century, the Waves created sharp, dramatic lines from the corner of the shawl outward and upward, accentuating the width of the skirt and drawing the eye to the rest of the shawl and the wearer’s feminine figure above.

Wave of Fancy Net

TEX 2004.336 Scarf

One of the most common Waves uses the Fancy Net pattern. It adds delicateness to a group of Waves and further complexity to any border design.
